Freezing cold weather can cause boiler condensate pipes to freeze up, which can prevent the boiler from functioning.

This video from Worcester Bosch shows you how to safely unfreeze the condensate pipe should it become frozen.

Should you be in any doubt about doing this yourself please get in touch with us.

How to Start:

All condensing boilers produce condensate as a waste product. Sometimes the condensate runs externally which during the cold winter months may freeze. Here are some options you can use to defrost your condensate pipe should it freeze:

  1. Use a hot water bottle and place it over the affected area of the condensate pipe and allow it to defrost over a period of time.
  2. You can also use a heat wrap such as the heat wraps you can use for muscular pain
  3. The third (and most effective) option is to pour warm water over the pipe. Please ensure you are using warm water and not boiling water. Also please do not attempt this if the condensate pipe is higher than around waist level.  Pour the warm water up and down the condensate pipe to defrost it. After defrosting with warm water you can reset your boiler.

To prevent this happening in the future you can insulate your condensate pipe.
