Most of the properties we have replaced were difficult to heat and keep warm because of their non-traditional construction type. Now customers live in modern, insulated homes offering a higher degree of comfort. Our replacement programme has seen us build a range of properties from bungalows to large family homes.

Moving into a brand new home can be an exciting time and one local couple were delighted with their decision to become Rykneld customers in one of the new homes in Calow. We caught up with them shortly after they moved into their three-bed, semi-detached house.
What do you think about the quality of the house?
The quality of the house is brilliant, it has completely exceeded our expectations. The fittings and fixtures were done, everything was ready for us to move in. I couldn't think of anything that could be improved with it.
What are the best bits of living in a new home?
It feels more like our own home knowing nobody else has lived in here. Everything was really clean too and we've had no problems with anything because of the newness.
Have the staff been helpful and supportive throughout this process?
The Community Liaison Officer has been very helpful through the moving in process and the lady at Rykneld who helped me set up my Direct Debit made it really easy to do. Everyone I've dealt with from Rykneld has been friendly, nice to talk to and really helpful.
In 2015 we completed work on building four new homes for affordable rent in Dronfield.
The developments, by Rykneld Homes, are semi-detached family properties which have been identified as in short supply in the town and surrounding area.
We have built:
- Two semi-detached houses on Marsh Avenue
- Two semi-detached houses on Sycamore Avenue.
In 2012, North East Derbyshire District Council took the decision to replace the existing 49 Tarran bungalows, which were in need of a major repair and refurbishment programme, with 65 new bungalows and 12 family homes.
Included in the development are 28 homes owned and managed by Rykneld Homes.
The bungalows were built following the Second World War to ease the national housing shortage. They were built with an anticipated life span of 25 years.
Tarran bungalows are classified as a defective construction type, and because they have no wall cavity are very difficult to heat and keep warm.
A decision was taken to replace the bungalows with a new build scheme, made up of bungalows, family-sized homes and a bungalow to accommodate a disabled family.
All work was completed in 2016 providing modern, energy efficient homes with the majority of existing tenants were supported by our Customer Liaison Team in moving into a plot of their choosing on the new estate
In June 2015, we completed a phased new build scheme in Grassmoor.
This involved replacing nine pre-fabricated bungalows on Keats Way. Due to their construction, these bungalows were hard to heat and keep warm.
A total of 25 brand new properties were built in their place.
The development includes:
- 14 two-bedroomed bungalows
- 1 three-bedroomed specially adapted bungalow
- 10 semi-detached houses - these are a mixture of two and three bedrooms.
The scheme received a special mention in the Best New Build category in the National Federation of ALMOs 2015 Awards.

Work to build new homes in North Wingfield is now completed.
Rykneld Homes, in partnership with North East Derbyshire District Council and contractors Westleigh have developed 50 new homes - a mix of 23 bungalows and 27 houses.
The development - Wingfield Court - replaced 45 non-traditionally built houses on the Alma estate - watch the video of some of the old properties being demolished on our YouTube channel. The scheme is part of Rykneld Homes and the Council's long term regeneration plans for non-traditionally built properties. Similar new build projects to replace older homes have already been successfully carried out in Eckington, Killamarsh, and Grassmoor.
Rykneld Homes worked in partnership with Futures Housing to develop a mixed tenure site which included the development of six properties for Rykneld Homes which were available for sale on the open market.
A total of 30 properties were built on the site on Carlyle Road in Stonebroom. Six of these properties were available for sale by Rykneld Homes on the Help to Buy Scheme.
The remaining 24 properties belong to Futures Housing and are affordable homes which were available for rent.
The Council worked in partnership with Rykneld Homes and Woodall Homes to develop three new Council bungalows in Tupton.
The bungalows are part of the Roman Rise development and were let through the Choice Move system.
All Shared Ownership properties which were available at Brailsford Park in Wingerworth have now been sold.
We had a number of homes available at the Brailsford Park estate on the popular Shared Ownership scheme which have now all been sold.
