- Ground cutting took place at Stonebroom site this week
- Development will bolster social housing stock
- Site will provide five bungalows boasting low carbon technologies
Work is underway on five new bungalows on the site of former garages in Stonebroom.
The properties form the first stage of a planned regeneration of the wider area that also includes a community centre.
Niall Clark, Rykneld Homes Deputy MD, said: “We have ambitious plans to deliver 400 new homes by 2027 - these five are a few more towards us achieving that.
“They are also an important step towards our wider plans to regenerate the Stonebroom area.
“Providing safe and decent homes for customers is a priority for us - these homes will feature new technologies and be delivered to our usual high standard.”
Chair of the Rykneld Homes board, Wayne Hodgkiss, added: “North East Derbyshire District Council has a strong focus on building new social housing and our partnership continues to go from strength to strength.
“Working together, we are providing safe and decent homes for our customers and supporting our communities.”
The two-bedroom bungalows will all be managed by Rykneld Homes on behalf of North East Derbyshire District Council.
Councillor Nigel Barker, leader of North East Derbyshire District Council said: “We are committed to building and providing more social housing and working with Rykneld Homes we are doing just that.
“It’s a great example of developing on Brownfield sites and building homes within our existing communities.”
A number of old garages are being demolished in preparation for the new development which will be delivered by Gelder Group.

A ground cutting ceremony marked the start of building work on the site, with garage demolition now underway.
The homes are expected to be ready for customers by Autumn 2025.
