The DWP has started moving people who are currently in receipt of legacy benefits such as Income Support, Income Related Employment and Support Allowance, Income Related Job Seekers Allowance, Child and Working Tax Credits and Housing Benefit onto Universal Credit. This process is known as managed migration. It started on 9 May 2022 and the DWP hope to complete the process by the end of 2024.
Visit the GOV.UK website for Universal Credit information
If you are in receipt of one of the legacy benefits above you should not do anything until you receive notification from the DWP that you need to claim UC. This notification is called a Migration Notice letter. (Unless you have a change in circumstances which means you need to claim Universal Credit or you would be better off claiming Universal Credit now in which case ensure you get advice before claiming.)
If you have any queries about this process and how it may affect you - or if you need any assistance once you receive your Migration Notice please contact our Financial Inclusion Officer Josephine Davies on 01246 217309.
