This year, the Community Involvement team secured over £33,000 of funding from Holiday Activities and Food Programme 2024 (HAF) to deliver 21 sessions over the school summer holidays in Mickley and Stonebroom.

Supported by Rykneld Homes, these sessions were facilitated by team of dedicated volunteers who engaged over 100 young people and their parents. The sessions offered a wide range of activities, ensuring that everyone had an enjoyable experience.

Throughout the sessions, attendees were provided with fresh fruit and refreshments. Craft and physical activities were available weekly, with Samba Sports delivering various grassroots sporting activities. In addition to this, themed activities were incorporated into the schedule, including:

  • Climbing wall
  • Indoor cave
  • Foam party
  • Silent disco
  • Archery
  • Inflatables
  • Colour run
  • Circus skills workshop
  • Puppet show
  • Water fights
  • First aid training.

At the end of each session, families were given a food hamper containing a healthy, budget-friendly meal and recipe card, enabling them to recreate the meal at home. Each event provided a different meal, meaning that 11 diverse and tasty meal recipes were distributed to families by the end of the summer.

The Community Involvement team received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the community and HAF, who attended one of the events.

We are pleased to announce that we will be offering similar sessions during the Christmas period.
