We are proud to have supported the excellent activities in Grassmoor recently.
Here is a brief summary of what we have been involved with:
- We successfully applied for over £10,000 of funding from the HAF to deliver Health Activities and Food over the school summer holidays
- 266 individual youngsters joined in sports and activity sessions at Eastwood Park, Hasland and 154 individual youngsters registered at sessions in Barnes Park, Grassmoor - many of these children attended multiple sessions
- 16 sessions in total ran from 11am – 3pm with almost 1,000 picnic lunches being provided over a four-week period. There was no cost to attendees
- The focus of every session was sports - Samba Sports provided a large variety of activities to engage the children. We also provided arts and crafts workshops, a small petting zoo, forest school, Madame Zucchini vegetable show, circus skills and birdbox making
- Feedback was really positive with one attendee writing to the Derbyshire Times to thank the group for organising the project. The group consists of fabulous local volunteers with the support of Rykneld Homes
- We are always looking for more volunteers to help make these activities possible. There is a volunteer recruitment event for the group on Saturday19 October 1-3pm at Hasland Hub. For more details visit www.lets-connect.org.uk
- At the end of the summer, we supported a newly formed community group to organise 'Grassmoor by the Sea' through the provision of funding from our Neighbourhood Improvement Budget and advice on delivering a community event. It was a huge success, with the group now planning further events in October and December for the community - keep an eye out for more information.
