Council Homes Transformed in £4.5m Regeneration Scheme
Council flats in Dronfield have been transformed into modern, energy efficient homes thanks to a £4.5m improvement programme.
Internal and external improvement works were completed on the 70 flats at Stonelow Green in 2014.
North East Derbyshire District Council, in partnership with its housing management company, Rykneld Homes, has led the scheme on the five blocks of flats as part of its long-term plan to regenerate housing across the District. Stonelow Green flats were in need of refurbishment and modernisation to secure their long term future.
The improvements at Stonelow Green took around 18 months to complete and included the installation of energy efficient gas central heating, new external doors and double glazed windows, upgraded fire protection works, the installation of external, thermal cladding to make the flats easier to heat and keep warm and the replacement of flats roofs with pitched roofs.
The scheme was shortlisted in the national 2015 Housing Innovation Awards.
Rykneld Homes upgraded communal entrances and carried out balcony refurbishments to blocks of flats at a number of locations across the district in Danesmoor, Dronfield, Grassmoor, Holmesfield, Apperknowle, Tupton, and Killamarsh.
Balconies have been restored and repainted where deemed necessary. Other flats in the district have received a facelift in the form of a brand new and more secure communal entrance, complete with a keypad entry.
Rykneld Homes' Development Manager said, "We identified a number of balconies at the flat blocks which we felt required restoring. We have now completed regenerating several of these flats with more work ongoing to restore the others. Following the restoration and upgrades they are now more pleasing to the eye as well as much better for our customers."
