Despite hedgehogs having declined by a third in Britain, the public are coming together to help them fight their way back.
There’s lots you can do to support hedgehogs, from creating a hole in your fence to building them a house!
The People’s Trust for Endangered Species and British Hedgehog Preservation Society have set up ‘Hedgehog Street’, a project dedicated to supporting hedgehogs in Britain. Through their website you can find all sorts of tips for how you can help this beloved little creature to thrive in your area.
We would love if you could log your hedgehog sightings too through their interactive map, which enables anyone to add where and when they’ve seen a hedgehog.
Please go to www.hedgehogstreet.org to find out more and have a read of their booklet below for more tips for how you can help hedgehogs.
Rykneld Homes is hoping to work with communities to support hedgehogs. We have teamed up with Sustainable Building Services to create 'HEDGEHOG HIGHWAYS' on the Castle Hill Estate in Eckington. We can arrange for a contractor to come to your garden and cut a small hole (about the size of a CD case) in your fence so they can roam further.
It's a simple small change that can make a big difference in protecting this species in your area.
